Das Königreich Garetien wird regiert von Rohaja von Gareth, die im Jahre 29 Hal zur Königin Garetiens gekrönt worden ist und dem versammelten Adel den Lehnseid abgenommen hat.

Als Berater und eigentliche Lenker des Königreichs in allen kleinen Dingen, die nicht zwingend die Entscheidung der Königin erfordern, fungieren die Garether Burggrafen, die sich durch eine besondere Nähe zum Herrscherhaus auszeichnen. Diese Gruppe von Beratern wird nach dem Gemach, in dem sie sich versammeln, das Zedernkabinett genannt. Dem Kabinett steht der Erste Königliche Rat vor. Dieses Amt ist allerdings unbesetzt, und es ist fraglich wann und ob die Königin es erneut besetzen wird.

Einen wesentlichen Einfluss auf die Geschicke des Königreichs nehmen mächtige gesellschaftliche Gruppen: der Adel (hier vor allem die Grafen), die Kirchen und die Händler. Nicht zu unterschätzen ist die Macht der Stadt Gareth, die vom Rat der Helden regiert wird und königliche und kaiserliche Protektion genießt. Ebenfalls nicht zu unterschätzen ist der garetische Marschall Ugo von Mühlingen, der nicht eigentlich ein politisches Amt bekleidet, aber mit seinen Reitern des Regimentes "Goldene Lanze", die ihm treu ergeben sind, die einzige nennenswerte Streitmacht im Land unterhält.

Mit der Kaiserkrönung Rohajas I. am 1. Praios 1029 BF gingen einige wichtige Reformen des Reiches einher. Diese wurden in der Ochsenbluter Urkunde festgehalten.
